Information About Training

In order to get a license to fly a gyro you must complete the necessary training.

Generally this begins with a Trial Instructional Flight (TIF) which lets you experience the Autogyro firsthand.

A TIF is actually your first lesson, but in reality your first lesson doesn’t involve much more than sitting in the back seat and enjoying the scenery as you get a feel for the aircraft with an experienced pilot up front.

You can take the stick for a little bit if you like, or you can simply gain an appreciation of the stability and safety that the Autogyro provides…and maybe enjoy the views as well.

After this initial flight you’ll have a pretty good about whether or not you want to go the next step and book yourself in for some training.

You’ll be able to ask your pilot any questions you have and find out more about what is required before you can get your gyroplane license.

How Long Does It Take To Get Your Gyroplane License?

Every person is different and learns at different rates, so there’s not really any specific number of hours of training required to get your license – you train until your instructor thinks you’re ready to take your first solo flight.

But as a very rough guide…

If you’re starting from scratch with zero flying experience, and you can get your training done in blocks rather than spread out over many months, than on average you can expect to be getting fairly close to a solo standard after around 35 hours of in-flight instruction.
